Ramona Hess combines the traditional craft of wood turning with contemporary art and design. She mixes old craftsmanship with digital and experimental techniques. She mostly works with wood that arises as scrap material in production facilities or does not meet quality standards. In handmade form, objects are created from this material that show the diversity and value of the natural material wood. Wood flaws, such as cracks or discolorations, are deliberately highlighted. Conventional quality standards are to be questioned. The objects are meant to tell a story. With her work, Ramona Hess aims to raise awareness of resource conservation and local craftsmanship.
