A 19th‑century French copper jardinière, 62 cm long, 16 cm high and 17 cm deep, with wrought-iron handles and feet, good used condition, verdigris and ochre patina, in Napoleon III antique style.
Description from the seller
It is a copper planter from the 19th century, spacious—its 62 cm length is felt right away—with that solemn character we associate with the Napoleon III style when applied to metalwork. The body, elongated and slightly bulging, displays an irregular hammering that seeks not geometric perfection but texture, life, that warm shine that only ancient copper can reflect. The patina, with greenish and ochre hues, speaks of decades of use and noble aging.
On each side, the twisted wrought-iron handles provide a delicious contrast: the soft copper against the dark, rougher, more sculptural iron. They are handles that do more than serve a function; they introduce a theatrical gesture, very typical of the Second Empire, where even utilitarian elements became ornament. The four curved legs, also in iron, lift the piece with an almost feline air, as if the planter were ready to advance a few centimeters.
The upper edge, reinforced with visible rivets, adds an industrial touch that balances the exuberant decoration. Taken together, the piece blends sturdiness and elegance, luxury and everyday use, that characteristic mix of 19th-century French furniture and metal objects. Today it functions as a centerpiece, an indoor planter, or an independent decorative piece, always adding presence and a historical wink.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
