Katharina Gröber-Dupont - Hut mit Eidechse

For sale: an expressive, signed bronze sculpture with the motif “Hat with Lizard,” attributed to Katharina Gröber-Dupont (1922–2021).

The object features a physically worked hat with a lively, rough textured surface. A gilded or gold-colored lizard rests on the hat, elegantly gliding over the hat surface. The strong contrast between dark patinated bronze and the gold-colored accent creates a very decorative and at the same time artistically striking effect.

The sculpture is signed on the hat with “CAT.” The motif, execution, material combination and dimensions correspond to known works by Katharina Gröber-Dupont, in particular the motif “Hat with Lizard.” This is an exceptional artist’s object and, in my assessment, an original piece / unique item.

Condition

The sculpture is in good, age-appropriate condition with a beautiful patina and decorative surface effect. The bronze intentionally shows irregular, artistically structured surfaces, scratches and processing marks that contribute to the design. The gold-colored accenting of the lizard is slightly worn in places, which underscores the character and the sculptural impact of the object. The iron stand shows age- and material-typical traces. Overall, a very interesting, collectible artist’s object with strong decorative presence.
