Description from the seller
Horst Kerstan (1941–2005) – Calabash Vase, Kandern, 1986
Exceptional hand-turned studio ceramics by the renowned German ceramicist Horst Kerstan from Kandern (Baden-Württemberg). The vase features the characteristic calabash form with a harmoniously balanced silhouette and a small, cylindrical opening.
Made of stoneware with a natural, vividly flowing brown-beige glaze. The surface shows Kerstan’s typical earthy color transitions and fine glaze traces that give each piece its unique character. The restrained form and modest glaze align with the tradition of late 20th-century modern German studio pottery.
The base bears the pressed workshop mark "K" in a square as well as the engraved signature "Kerstan 86", which clearly attributes the piece to the artist and dates it to 1986.
