Paesaggio is an oil painting by Antonio Asturi (1904–1986), a daytime village scene from Italy in the 1940s, unsigned? no, signed hand, on cardboard, 37 × 28 cm, weight 2.10 kg, and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Oil painting on cardboard depicting a village landscape with houses and a road by Antonio Asturi
Antonio Asturi (1904-1986) was a self-taught Italian painter from Vico Equense, deeply influenced by the Neapolitan master Antonio Mancini. A prolific artist who created almost ten thousand works during his career, Asturi is known for his portraits of illustrious personalities such as Benedetto Croce, Salvador Dalí, and Arturo Toscanini, as well as for his rural landscapes and themes of motherhood. In the early productive period, up to the end of the 1950s, he predominantly used oil on canvas or cardboard, signing the work in the color, as observed in this piece.
This type of work is particularly appreciated by collectors of 20th-century Italian modern art who seek paintings by documented artists with landscape subjects. Enthusiasts of postwar Italian art and collectors of rural views find in these works both aesthetic and historical value, representing the life and architecture of Italian villages from the mid-20th century. The technique on cardboard was commonly used by Asturi for finished works, making this piece an authentic example of his production from the most sought-after period.
Dimensions with frame (provided as a courtesy): 56x45x5
