H.B Quimper - Celtic cross - 29 cm - Faience - 1950-1960

Beautiful Celtic cross signed HB Quimper.
Excellent condition.

Quimper earthenware has been produced since 1708 in the historic faience district of Locmaria, near Quimper’s town centre. Its production developed by bringing in clay from Bordeaux and Rouen, benefiting from the presence of two rivers, the Odet and the Steir, and the surrounding forests for fuel.

The notable development of Quimper earthenware in the 18th century and then in the 19th century would lead in the 20th century to fierce competition between the two local manufactories (Henriot and H.B), which would be expressed as much in the creativity of the decorations, via more than 250 artists listed, as on the benches of the courts.
