Steel-cased wristwatch with manual-wind calibre A movement, model cal A., 50 mm case diameter, in good condition with visible wear, in working order and offered for restoration.
Description from the seller
Watch from a private collection; I do not have the history of the last service, but it is working.
Dial with some interventions.
The watch is running but is sold for restoration.
This is the legendary caliber A.
It became famous for Interchangeable Parts: It was the world’s first mechanism built with strictly standardized parts produced in series. Any watchmaker in the world could order a replacement part and fit it directly without the need for hand-finished adjustments.
Grade A: Represented the standard/base production finish version of this open-dial mechanism (Lepine configuration), while grades C and D were regulated for chronometer precision.
Innovative Crown System: Introduced the practical mechanism where both winding and time-setting were performed by the crown stem through a patented lever (Swiss Patent CH 8760 of 1894).
