AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

LARGE RECTANGULAR LIVING-ROOM ASHTRAY
Paris, Hermès, late 20th century

White porcelain with a multicolored enamel serigraphy decoration and refinements in 24-karat gold. Along the outer edges are inscribed in brown: "HERMÈS - PARIS" and "Made in France". The lower base preserves the original protective coating in petrol green suede or velvet. Measurements: Length about 19.5 cm; width about 16 cm.

Condition: Good overall. Note two small chips (enamel cracks with partial loss of gilding) located at two of the outer corners of the upper rim as shown in the photo.

The central decoration, devoted to the equestrian universe which forms the historical core of the brand founded by Thierry Hermès in 1837, depicts a proud bay horse in parade caparison, captured in an elegant pose. The animal is adorned with a rich saddle and a bridle cloth in emerald green and gold-yellow tones, finely embellished with geometric motifs. The scene is completed by stylized vegetative and shrub elements arranged on a ground of geometric bands, recalling the exquisitely graphic and two-dimensional style typical of the house’s famous silk carré squares.
