Made in Italy, circular devotional plaque in 800 silver, 5 x 5 cm, 30 g,, richly chased and pierced, depicting a Madonna in prayer with radiating background and a fully pierced border, suitable for table display or suspension via the ring.
Description from the seller
Small devotional plaque-frame for table and hanging.
Material: 800 silver, repoussé, chased, pierced.
Dimensions: 5 x 5 cm Weight: 30 g
A refined and eclectic circular devotional edicule, conceived both as a tabletop object thanks to the rear easel foot, and for hanging via the apical ring.
In the center, within a circular reserve outlined by a fine beading, stands the finely repoussé profile of the Madonna in prayer. The iconography and the delicacy of the line reflect the revival neo-Renaissance taste, looking with exquisite sensibility to the Tuscan paintings of the Quattrocento (in particular to the compositions of Filippo Lippi and his circle). The background of the scene features a treatment of closely radiating lines, intended to create a striking light effect and spiritual emphasis around the sacred figure.
The rich and elegant peripheral border is entirely pierced-through (openwork) and decorated with a continuous garland of small flowers with petal-like corollas alternating with leafy scrolls, which give lightness and decor to the whole.
