Hello! If you are looking for a unique and unconventional painting created with a noble technique and you feel drawn to the mysterious and dignified world of nature, you’re in the right place.
I am an experienced artist and painter from Poland. I am strongly inspired by Japanese aesthetics and natural history illustrations from old eras. My paintings fit not only private interiors but also spaces such as boutique hotels, cafes, offices, beauty clinics, or studios. I include a certificate of authenticity with every work.
My direct inspiration is the Japanese nihonga technique. The paintings are made on cotton canvas or paper. The paints are ground by hand from Japanese mineral pigments suihi and homemade glue. I use brushes in an Asian style, commonly associated with calligraphy, for applying the paint. White color comes from gofun – the Japanese oyster shell powder. I also paint sumi ink based on water. The gilded fragments in my paintings are schlagmetall – metal flakes that imitate gold. These metallic elements reflect light beautifully, even on cloudy days, and give the painting a slightly different look from every angle.
The painting depicts orchids with winding roots, whose lush dark green leaves and pink-white flowers spread freely across a golden background adorned with a rhythmic, geometric pattern reminiscent of fabric or stained glass. The combination of the organic, untamed nature of the plant with a precisely crafted background ornament creates a tension between vitality and decorative order.
Hanna Werkowicz (born 1986, Warsaw) is a graduate of the Theater Academy in Warsaw and a makeup school. She has also worked as an illustrator, a prop designer for advertising and film, and created about 500 art objects for clients around the world. Her main inspirations are Japanese aesthetics and antique natural history illustrations, and her artistic focus centers on animals and plants. In her works, beyond external form, she aims to capture the spirit of the plant or animal, paying homage to the perfect beauty of nature. Her paintings balance decorative form with the rawness of natural pigment, giving them a calm, contemplative character.
