Description from the seller
I present at auction this exceptional work of intense spiritual charge, where the expression of the figure transcends mere physical likeness to become a vehicle of contemplation, wisdom and inner connection. The elevated gaze, directed toward a point outside the pictorial plane, invites the viewer to share a moment of silent reflection, while the serenity of the face conveys a deep sense of peace and elevation. - The chromatic richness of the ceremonial attire establishes a beautiful contrast with the sobriety of the tunic, allowing attention to focus on the nobility of the face and the expressiveness of the gaze. The warm tones of the background envelop the composition in a luminous atmosphere that enhances the spiritual character of the portrait and reinforces its symbolic dimension.
Special prominence is given to the elaborated headdress, resolved with a vibrant combination of colors, textures and ornamental elements that visually enrich the work without detracting from the figure's prominence. Each detail contributes to defining the character's cultural identity, while the pictorial treatment maintains a balance between realism and an artistic interpretation of great sensitivity.
The work has been created using a careful oil on canvas technique, employing a warm-toned preparation that harmonizes the overall color palette and provides unity to the composition.
The artist develops the anatomical modeling through successive glazings and delicate tonal transitions, especially visible in the treatment of the face, where the light accurately describes the volumes of the forehead, nose, cheeks and beard. The flesh tones present a rich layering of earths, ochres, siennas and subtle reddish and violet nuances that confer great chromatic richness to the skin, while the beard and hair show a looser and more fragmented brushstroke that adds vibrancy and movement.
In contrast, the garments and the headdress have been executed with a more generous application of paint, taking advantage of controlled impasto and visible brushstrokes that enrich the textures of the fabrics and ornamental elements.
The broad strokes and the variations in the background thickness create a lively surface that converses with the detail of the portrait, to offer us a painting of marked personality, where mastery of drawing, chromatic sensibility and the expressiveness of the brushwork combine to offer a work of notable emotional intensity and refined technical execution.
A simulated framed presentation is shown, but the painting will be sent WITHOUT A FRAME.
