Description from the seller
The Manifestation – Original painting by Kike Chumillas
Acrylic on canvas | 65 × 92 cm | signed (front, bottom right) | with certificate of authenticity
This impressive work by the Spanish artist Kike Chumillas (*1969 in Cuenca) is a powerful original acrylic painting on canvas, which merges social themes with visual clarity and symbolic depth. In “La Manifestación,” Chumillas themes protest, collective identity, and the role of the individual in public life. At the center of the image is a figure facing the viewer – masked, upright, resolute.
Association with “Der vierte Stand”:
The foreground figure inevitably recalls the iconic composition of Il Quarto Stato (The Fourth Estate, 1901) by Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo — a masterwork of the workers’ movement that places the self-empowerment of the people at its center. In Chumillas as well, the central figure emerges with calm determination, as a representative of a larger movement in the background. Yet while Pellizza refers to social justice in early 20th century, Chumillas translates the motif to our present, with allusions to today’s protest culture, media masking, and political symbolism.
Technique and condition:
The work was created in 2018 in acrylic on canvas and measures 65 × 92 cm. It is in excellent condition, unframed and ready to hang immediately. The artist’s signature is on the front, bottom right. An authenticity certificate, signed by the artist on 12.04.2021, is included. Additionally, the offering includes prospectus material with further information about the artist and the work.
About the artist:
Kike Chumillas is regarded as an emerging voice in contemporary Spanish art. The Cuenca-born artist studied Fine Arts at the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia and is a co-founder of the artist group CUVA. His works have been shown in renowned Spanish galleries and international art fairs — including Interarte Valencia, Kunstart Bolzano, and MARTE Castellón. Chumillas has received multiple awards and is represented in private and institutional collections.
Style and message:
His style is a powerful blend of Pop Art, Street Art, and surreal symbolism — with clear lines, strong colors, and a political undertone. “La Manifestación” stands as a representative example of Chumillas’ artistic aim: to make current societal issues visible without slipping into mere illustration. His works challenge viewers to engage — both visually and content-wise.
A work with stance:
“La Manifestación” is more than a picture — it is a statement. For collectors who value critical contemporary art, this work offers authenticity, artistic handwriting, and documented provenance. A striking piece with strong presence — expressive, charged, and absolutely contemporary.
