Curatorial Speech
“Mesa de Signos” presents a composition with strong visual impact where the traditional still life is transformed into a symbolic scene, built from fragmented planes, everyday objects, and circular forms that activate the entire surface. The work starts from recognizable elements—the table, the bottle, the jug, the glass, and the fruit—but shifts them toward a more pictorial territory, where each shape functions as a sign within a complex visual architecture.
The composition organizes itself around the table, which acts as the base and stage of the work. On it, the objects seem to arrange themselves with an internal, almost musical logic: the verticality of the bottle dialogues with the curve of the jug, the glass introduces a central pause, and the fruits add volume, color, and organic presence. At the top, diagonal lines, spirals, and geometric planes expand the scene beyond a simple still life, turning it into an image charged with movement and tension.
Color plays an essential role. Turquoise and blue dominate the overall atmosphere, bringing freshness, depth, and an enveloping sensation. Against them, yellows, greens, pinks, reds, and oranges introduce warm accents that make the composition vibrate. This chromatic combination creates a luminous, tropical, and sophisticated work, with a very attractive balance between freshness and pictorial density.
The brushwork preserves visible energy, with areas of open strokes, glazes, and gestures that bring vitality to the surface. At the same time, dark outlines and geometric construction support the image with firmness, preventing the composition from dispersing. That tension between gestural freedom and structure is one of the keys of the work: everything seems to move, but everything remains carefully anchored.
In “Mesa de Signos,” everyday objects stop being mere elements of a still life and become presences charged with meaning. The table becomes a meeting place between matter, color, memory, and symbol.
