Description from the seller

In Greek mythology, the mandrake was considered a magical plant and anthropomorphic, linked to Aphrodite and Circe, famous for its narcotic, aphrodisiac properties and for the forked root that recalls the shape of a human body.

The painting by Abruzzese artist Filippo Stivaletta perfectly captures this myth:
The anthropomorphism of the plant: The naked female figure seems to literally emerge from the roots and the bark of the tree, merging with nature in a metamorphosis that recalls the “human” aspect of the mythical root.

Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist style: The flowing red hair and the ethereal atmosphere are a clear homage to Pre-Raphaelite painting (of which Stivaletta is a deep admirer), historically linked to mythological subjects and to mysterious and sensual female figures.
