Medsan, Edo Lecter (江戸レクター) – Hand Signed – 2/2, a 40 × 40 cm giclée from an edition of 2, created in 2026, in excellent condition, signed by the artist and sold direct from the artist.
Description from the seller
This square-format piece by Medsan presents a striking mashup of contemporary psychological horror cinema and traditional Japanese theater. The giclée features a Kabuki actor in profile, recognizable by his red kumadori makeup that underscores the intensity and severity of his gaze.
The visual impact lies in the character’s attributes that directly reference the famous serial killer Hannibal Lecter. The lower half of his face is concealed by the emblematic straitjacket mask, and his patterned kimono is tightly secured with heavy black leather straps, reminiscent of a straitjacket. In his restrained hand, he reads a pamphlet. The dark humor of the work reveals itself in the Japanese text on the page: "メニュー" (Menu) and "レバーと日本酒" (Liver and Sake), a direct cultural reinterpretation of the famous culinary line from The Silence of the Lambs.
The composition’s impact is enhanced by a flat ochre background, which makes the dark tones of the straps and mask stand out, as well as the red of the makeup. The bold lines and flat colors scrupulously follow the codes of ukiyo-e, giving this menacing character a graphic pop-art aesthetic. The traditional vertical cartouche at the top right, housing the artist’s signature in katakana (メドサン), completes the temporal illusion.
A conceptual piece, both aesthetic and subtly macabre, ideal for bringing a pop, cinematic, and deeply offbeat touch to a design-focused contemporary interior.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Established as a true site of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
