Description from the seller
ONLY ONE EXISTS IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan takes us on an anachronistic and jubilant mashup, fusing the absolute masterpiece of Japanese printmaking — Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa — with the universe of the cult manga One Piece. This print revisits the iconic composition of the surging wave, its crested foam claws and its vertigo-inducing hollow, painted in the deep blues characteristic of the style, overarched at a distance by the snowy silhouette of Mount Fuji. The visual clash and the humor of the composition lie in the genius subversion: instead of fishermen’s boats bobbing on the swells, it is the Thousand Sunny, the famous ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, riding the monumental wave. Its figurehead with a solar lion head, its sails bearing the Jolly Roger with the straw hat, and its bright red hull bring a touch of adventure and optimism to the fury of the elements. The sky, in pale peach and crème, treated with textured impasto evoking an impressionist touch, bathes the scene in sunset light. The bold line and scrupulous respect for Hokusai’s composition meet here the pop vitality of contemporary manga culture. A conceptual piece, both aesthetic, playful, and nostalgic, ideal for bringing a pop, graphic, and deeply geeky touch to a modern design interior.

About the Studio: Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists gathered around a vibrant and plural contemporary creation. Established as a genuine art production space, the studio functions both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and artworks. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo follows a more instinctive path, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and supervised within the studio, reflecting a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
