This print revisits the iconic composition of the surging wave, its crested foam claws and its vertigo-inducing hollow, painted in the deep blues characteristic of the style, overarched at a distance by the snowy silhouette of Mount Fuji. The visual clash and the humor of the composition lie in the genius subversion: instead of fishermen’s boats bobbing on the swells, it is the Thousand Sunny, the famous ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, riding the monumental wave.
