With this square-format artwork, Medsan takes us on an epic, nostalgic mashup, fusing the aesthetic of Edo-period warrior prints with the universe of the cult manga Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac). This giclée, treated in a sober palette of slate gray, cream, and gold accents, features a knight leaping through the air, not wearing his traditional bronze cloth armor, but a majestic samurai armor (ō-yoroi) adorned with a kabuto helmet crowned by a winged maedate. The visual impact and the strength of the composition lie in this historical reinterpretation: Seiya, Pegasus hero, becomes a legendary samurai suspended mid-leap, sword drawn, before a pristine moon disk. Behind him, Pegasus’s constellation glimmers, connected by gold lines and accompanied by the inscription “PEGASUS,” while Mount Fuji rises on the horizon among stylized cloud swirls. The frame, ornate with traditional motifs and the vertical katakana cartouche (聖闘士 セイヤ) complete this fusion of eras and mythologies. The precise line work and balanced composition respect the codes of the classical print while infusing it with the heroic energy of shōnen.
