Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan explores themes of duality and identity through a striking graphic composition, rendered in blue navy and cream two-color printing in the style of traditional engraving. This giclée features a courtesan with an elaborately styled hairdo, studded with kanzashi pins and cherry blossoms, whose face doubles in a troubling way: on one side the mask of the white fox (kitsune), a tutelary figure of Shinto folklore, and on the other a woman’s face with an anxious expression, cracked like a broken ceramic revealing an anatomical brain instead of hair. The visual clash and the conceptual force lie in this metaphor of the social mask and inner turmoil: behind the polished appearance and imposed role lies a fragmented psyche, exposed. Petals, splinters, and bands of paper covered in calligraphy scatter around the torso, heightening the impression of dislocation. The vertical katakana cartouche (メドサン) and the artist’s seal anchor the work in the tradition of the print. A conceptual piece, at once aesthetic, dark, and deeply introspective, ideal for bringing a graphical, intriguing, and intellectual touch to a stylish and contemporary interior.

About the Studio: Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists brought together around a living and plural contemporary creation. Established as a true hub of artistic production, the atelier operates both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive inquiry, blending abstract art, raw art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
Keywords: Medsan, Atelier Joconde, Le Yack, Kitsune, Fox Mask, Geisha, Duality, Identity, Brain, Anatomy, Psyche, Bichromie, Navy blue, Kimono, Ukiyo-e, Japanese print, Pop Art, Square format, Contemporary, Introspection, Edo
