French artist MEDSAN presents a 40 × 40 cm giclée entitled 'Virtual Reality Geisha (仮想現実の花魁) - UNIQUE EDITION', a 1/1 limited edition from 2026, signed by hand, in Pop Art style depicting a Geisha in an Edo-inspired interior wearing a VR headset.
Description from the seller
ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan draws us into an anachronistic and flavorful mashup, fusing the elegance of an Edo-period interior scene with the immersive technologies of the 21st century. This giclée features a courtesan kneeling in seiza on a tatami, wearing a magnificent kimono richly embroidered with cranes, peonies and cherry blossoms in gold, blue, and red hues. The visual clash and the humor of the composition lie in the technological subversion: the beauty, adorned with all her traditional kanzashi hairpins, wears a modern virtual reality headset over her eyes and holds a gaming controller with bluish halos in each hand, completely absorbed in her virtual experience. Around her, the decor is a perfect fidelity to tradition: shoji screen, koto resting on its stand, incense burner, bonsai, wooden chest, and a hanging kakemono adorned with Mount Fuji and the artist’s signature in katakana (メドサン). The contrast between the serenity of the ancestral setting and the incongruity of the gaming device creates a jubilant time-telescope effect. The line work and flat areas of color respect the codes of ukiyo-e prints while imbuing them with a pop vitality. A conceptual piece, both aesthetic, funny, and intelligent, ideal for bringing a pop, graphic, and deeply offbeat touch to a contemporary and designer interior.

About Atelier: Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Installed as a true art-production space, the workshop operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, art brut, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity all its own for each artist.
Keywords: Medsan, Atelier Joconde, Le Yack, Virtual reality, VR headset, Gaming, Video game, Geisha, Controllers, Tatami, Koto, Bonsai, Kimono, Ukiyo-e, Japanese print, Pop Art, Mashup, Square format, Anachronism, Contemporary, Tradition, Modernity, Edo
