Autour de la Table by Florian and Grandville is a 1st edition hardback, published in Paris by Paulin et le Chevalier in 1849, consisting of 52 pages in French, with illustrations of anthropomorphic animals.
Description from the seller
This is essentially a first edition of Grandville's illustrated reworking of Florian’s text, with his images now playing a major role.
No date but WorldCat suggests 1849.
An oblong album of Grandville's woodcuts for Florian's Fables taken from the Dubochet edition of 1842.
Each illustration is accompanied by the title of the fable as well as the passage it represents. The large title vignette is not signed and does not belong to the Dubochet edition.
The last woodcuts, pages 51-52, are signed G[erard] Seguin.
Advertisement for L'Illustration and table of contents to the end. 103 engravings.
Burgundy buckram binding. This has heavy signs of use, with rubbing to the corners, and splitting to the spine. A little foxing to the edges and end papers, but overall a good, clean and tidy copy inside.
Grandville's fabulous anthropomorphic imagery abounds. Nice caricatures.
20 x 29 cm. Conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 860873.
