With this landscape-format artwork, Medsan displays all his talent in a double-exposure composition of great poetry, fusing the silhouette of a warrior with an autumnal print landscape. This print features, in profile, the bust of a samurai in armor, recognizable by his helmet and swords tucked into the belt, treated as a dark silhouette. The visual impact and the beauty of the composition lie in the overlay technique: inside this silhouette unfolds a flamboyant Japanese autumn landscape, where a traditional wooden bridge spans a winding river, lined with maples with scarlet and amber foliage (momiji). The warrior thus carries within him the country he defends, his soul merging with nature and the seasons. The cream background, sprinkled with ghostly calligraphy and ink swirls, evokes the paper of old prints and lends the whole a meditative and timeless atmosphere.
