Description from the seller
Golok - Cirebon or Sunda
Total length 59 cm
Blade 41 cm
Scabbard 46 cm
Handle 13 cm
This single-edged weapon features an elegant, gently curved silhouette. The blade, in Damascus-pattern steel, long and narrow, gradually widens toward its rounded tip. Its surface exhibits an old patina as well as traces of oxidation compatible with prolonged use.
The buffalo horn handle is particularly remarkable. It takes a curved shape ending in a mythical animal head, probably naga or makara. The geometric motifs engraved along the entire length of the handle attest to careful artisanal workmanship and a strong symbolic dimension.
The scabbard is made of soft wood, consisting of two half-shells joined and held together by braided plant bindings. On its main face there is a rectangular recess that was used to thread a cord for carrying. The tip of the scabbard is also secured by a plant binding.
Period: late 19th, early 20th
