Sensational work by the Valladolid-born Lorenzo Colomo in acrylic on panel. This piece is a synthesis of geometric and linear-trend tracings, which somehow unites cubist symbolism and abstract expressionism. The artist gives free rein to his philosophical and existential line, offering us an extraordinary juxtaposition of tones and forms. Cold colors predominate, with a vibrant palette featuring purples, blues, and pinks.
Lorenzo Colomo (Valdenegro de los Valles, Valladolid, 1950 – 2023)
Lorenzo Colomo Argüello was a Valladolid plastic artist and gallery owner; he held his first exhibition in 1972. Throughout his career, his work evolved from expressionism toward lyrical and conceptual abstraction. He claimed to create painting that conveys concepts, since he was not interested in trends and shunned the elitist image of art. For Lorenzo Colomo, “plastic arts should provide philosophical repose and knowledge for the human being.”
With more than thirty solo exhibitions to his name, he has also amassed numerous awards. His work was selected for multiple national-themed competitions, such as the Barcelona Biennial, the Cuenca Biennial of Abstract Art, and the Zamora Biennial. He also participated in various group exhibitions, and his work has been shown at events such as ARCO, Arcale, ArteSevilla, Arte Santander, Art Jaén, and Art Madrid, earning recognitions such as the “Racimo Award” in Painting in 2005.
