It is precisely the extreme stylization and simplification that give Bruna’s illustrations their powerful impact—on both young and old.

Bruna’s illustrations are visionary and ahead of their time. He was inspired by avant-garde artists such as Braque, Picasso, Matisse, and Léger. He was fascinated by their use of color, the lack of perspective, and the simplicity of their work. Bruna began to experiment with a clear, minimal color palette and the omission of unnecessary detail. Nowhere is Bruna’s vision, craftsmanship, and his ability to create a sense of space through color on a flat surface more evident than in his most famous creation: Miffy.

Publisher Komma has worked in close collaboration with Mercis Publishing to create this special edition. nijntje xxl miffy is published in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, making it a true collector’s item for devoted fans. Each book is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The edition contains nearly 600 pages, entirely dedicated to the powerful design of Miffy. For this special release, designer Bob van Dijk created a beautiful book stand in the shape of the iconic cross.
