Description from the seller
Decorative ceramic tile created for the inaugural season 2009 of the Costa Pacifica cruise ship. The piece reproduces a subject freely inspired by Alphonse Mucha's work "Portrait of Zdenka Černá", in a refined Art Nouveau composition.
The tile is kept in its original Costa Pacifica packaging, bearing the inscription "Ceramiche per la decorazione della nave da crociera – Stagione Inaugurale 2009".
A collectible item for enthusiasts of art, design, and naval memorabilia. Ideal as a decorative element or a collectible piece.
Condition: excellent condition, complete with original box.
In 1906 Mucha gave a series of lectures at the Chicago Art Institute. While in Chicago, he and Maruška stayed with A.V. Černý, Professor of Music at the Prague Conservatory. 'Papa' Černý had three daughters, all musically gifted. Mucha befriended the second daughter, Zdenka, who was seven years old, and promised to paint her portrait when she became a virtuoso concert artist. The portrait was painted when she was 16 and formed the basis for this poster advertising a European tour that Zdenka would undertake in 1914–1915. The concert was canceled when the war broke out, but the poster remains as evidence of the artist's friendship with the Černý family.
