The People Portraits by Pascal Baril in Cannes
For more than forty years, Pascal Baril has frequented the backstage areas of the Cannes Film Festival. His photojournalist eye allows him to capture much more than the mere glow of the red carpet. Behind the glamour and spotlights, he reveals moments of grace, emotion and truth.
Actors, directors, singers and personalities from the artistic world parade before his lens. From Madonna to Marion Cotillard, from Isabelle Adjani to Penélope Cruz, his portraits bear witness to a rare closeness with those who shape the contemporary cinema’s imagination.
Shot in black and white or in color depending on the era, these photographs today form a sensitive memory of the Cannes Film Festival and its icons. Between press photography and author’s portrait, Pascal Baril offers us a view that is at once elegant, humanitarian and timeless of the celebrities of his time.
This series would perfectly fit in a summer exhibition at the Atelier/Gallery Taylor dedicated to “Icons of Cannes.”
