Biography of Ninni Pagano

N born in Catania in 1969, Ninni Pagano initially undertakes scientific studies, a background that will influence the precision and structure of his future works. His approach to the art world comes through attending the studio of master Antonio Sciacca, with whom he shares a vision of art as a bridge between different eras.

The Poetical Vision: The Chamber of Wonders
Pagano's research is closely tied to the concept of Wunderkammer (Chamber of Wonders). His works are often conceived as mental spaces where fusion occurs:

Classicism and Pop: Elements of Greek and Renaissance sculpture are reinterpretations with compact colors and contemporary symbolisms.
Alchemy and Philosophy: The artist investigates the enigma of existence through dreamlike figures (such as his renowned "Swan Women") and hermetic references.
Matter: He uses blended powders to achieve a chromatic compactness that gives the canvases a almost sculptural dimension.

Achievements and Recognitions
Although his exhibition career truly took off around 2011, he quickly reached notable international milestones:
Venice Biennale: He exhibited at the 56th edition (2015) within the exhibition "Grazie Italia" at the Guatemala Pavilion.
Rome Triennale: Participation in the Visual Arts Triennial Exhibition in 2014.
Publications: His work is included in Mondadori's Catalogo d'Arte Moderna (CAM) and in the Atlas of Contemporary Art by De Agostini.

International Presence: His works have been exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Altes Dampfbad Museum in Baden-Baden, Germany, and at Art Market in Budapest.
In addition to being a painter and sculptor, Pagano is a knowledgeable connoisseur of antiquarian art. This passion is reflected in the way he "recovers" the past, not to copy it, but to transform it into a grotesque and fascinating language that speaks of the contradictions of modern man.

Inner Mirage
Inner Mirage
An "inner mirage" is a poetic and psychological expression that describes the visible projection of our desires, our nostalgias, or our deepest emotional states, treated as if they were a real landscape before our eyes.

If the classic mirage (that of the desert) is an optical illusion caused by physics and heat, the inner mirage is a soul illusion, governed by fantasy and the need to escape.

We can break this concept down into three main nuances:

1. The geography of the subconscious
The inner mirage does not follow the laws of logic or nature, but those of dreams. This is why, in the work we analyzed, completely incongruent elements — a giraffe on the beach, a shark hanging in the sky — live together peacefully. They are not errors of reality, but symbols of a mental landscape: the giraffe may represent the search for a higher point of view, the shark a suspended danger or a domesticated fear, the sea the infinite.

2. Escaping inertia
Often this type of mirage manifests in moments of deep physical immobility. The female figure in the painting is seated, composed, enclosed in a dark room. The inner mirage is her escape route: when the body is forced to the ground or trapped in routine, the mind opens a "window" to an exotic, absurd, and liberating elsewhere. The more sober and silent the surrounding reality, the more vivid and colorful the inner mirage becomes.

3. The melancholy of the desired
A mirage, by definition, is something unattainable. The inner mirage carries with it a hint of sweet melancholy: it is the awareness that that perfect, strange, fascinating world exists only as long as we keep our eyes half-closed in thought. It is nostalgia for a place we have never been, or for a part of ourselves that we struggle to express in everyday life.
