Chelyabinsk meteorite micro individuals - 15 g

The meteor, which on February 15, 2013, hurtled toward Earth at 18 kilometers per second, about 20 meters in size, was greatly slowed by the Earth's atmosphere. The energy released caused a massive explosion whose shock wave damaged 3,700 buildings. The meteor was torn apart, so a meteorite shower rained down in thousands of pieces, often only a few grams in weight, but pieces weighing several kilograms were also recovered. The Chelyabinsk meteorite fall will, due to its violence and its good video documentation, be found in every future literary meteorite work. Also, for the first time, sound recordings of a superbolide have been made. Chelyabinsk shows very diverse textures; the asteroid was not homogeneous. Besides bright unmelted rock, some pieces show fine nets of shock veins, others consist entirely of dark melts and melt breccias formed in earlier asteroid collisions.
