The German photographer Manfred Paul is one of the defining voices of contemporary author photography in Germany. He became known for his poetic black-and-white photographs, translating urban spaces, still lifes, and quiet observations of everyday life into a reduced, often melancholic visual language. Since the 1970s, Manfred Paul has developed a consistent body of work at the crossroads of documentary and artistic reflection. His work has been shown internationally and acquired by major collections of contemporary photography. Manfred Paul is regarded as an important representative of German art photography and of conceptual black-and-white photography of the 20th and 21st centuries.
