[EXCEPTIONAL] Marcel PROUST – In Search of Lost Time (10 volumes)
Rare set from the library of sociologist Maurice Halbwachs
We are selling a unique 10-volume set from the Nouvelle Revue Française (NRF) editions of Marcel Proust, bound in half blue/brown morocco. This set has remarkable provenance, having belonged to the famous French sociologist Maurice Halbwachs (inventor of the concept of collective memory, who died in deportation at Buchenwald in 1945) and includes the autograph signature of his wife, Yvonne Halbwachs (daughter of Victor Basch).

Le Côté de Guermantes I (1920): FIRST EDITION, NUMBERED EDITION (No. CXXV).
Sodome et Gomorrhe II (Volumes 1, 2 and 3 – 1922): Original unnumbered editions, plain paper (fictitious edition notes). (See image_6.png)
La Prisonnière (1923): Unnumbered original edition.
Albertine disparue (1925): Unnumbered original edition.
Le Temps retrouvé (1927): Unnumbered original edition.
Also included in the lot to complete the collection: Du côté de chez Swann and À l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs.
Characteristics and condition:
Prestigious provenance: Handwritten ink notes recounting the Halbwachs family history (see image_4.png). Handwritten pencil note “Yvonne Halbwachs (autograph)” on the white sheet.
Institutional marks: Library stamp of the Bibliothèque de la Diana (Montbrison) with the official note “Removed from the inventory on 4/3/2025” (the books are therefore perfectly authorized and legally sold).
Binding: Period bindings, hard spine with gilt titles
