After an initial period dedicated to sculpture there was a long pause that lasted a while. Since December 2014 I resumed with the “two dimensions,” leaving sculpture aside and focusing on creating acrylic paintings.
I love painting abstract landscapes but recently I’ve been pushing myself to paint faces of people, both imaginary and real.
For me, painting is about "freezing time" in that exact moment; one of my paintings is often a faded memory and thus my works are "worn, eroded by time." Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are views of walls also eroded by time, with moss and fungi that—over time—grow on the surface.
The inexorable passage of time is the main theme of my works.
Coming from a wonderful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch, and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs that are perceptible to the touch as well as to the eye.
In this last period, after several years during which my works were made from small pieces of recycled paper forming figures, I’m pushing to explore Optical Art where I use painted wooden discs arranged in lines and repeating grids with mathematical rigor that, when viewed up close, seem to form an abstract colorful painting but when you move farther away an illustrated figure emerges from the many painted wooden discs.
Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to report the fact that they are not their partner’s dolls and cannot be mistreated or, worse, victims of violence.
