Born in 1974 I am self-taught.
After an initial period devoted to sculpture there was a long standstill lasting almost twenty years. Since December 2014 I resumed with the “two dimensions” for reasons of time and space, leaving sculpture aside and dedicating myself to making acrylic paintings.
I love painting abstract landscapes but lately I’m also pushing myself to paint faces of people, both imaginary and real.
For me painting is about “freezing time” in that exact moment; my painting is often a faded memory and therefore my works are “worn, eroded by time.” Sometimes my paintings depict glimpses of walls also eroded by time, with moss and mushrooms that – over time – grow on the surface.
The inexorable passage of time is the main theme of my works.
Coming from a wonderful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch, and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs easily perceived both by touch and to the naked eye.
Recently, after several years during which my works were created from scraps of recycled paper forming figures, I’m pushing myself to explore Optical Art where I use painted wooden discs arranged in lines and grids repeated with mathematical rigor which, when viewed up close, seem to form an abstract, colorful painting, but the farther you go, the more a portrait figure emerges from the many painted wooden discs.
Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or the courage to report that they are not their partner’s dolls and cannot be mistreated or worse, victims of violence.
