Description from the seller
This charming oil painting on canvas offers a vivid and nostalgic genre scene, rich in atmosphere and old-world charm. The work bears the artist’s clearly visible signature in the bottom right, by master Ugo Mascolo, and is titled, as reported on the back of the canvas, "Al bancolotto".
The composition describes a slice of daily life inspired by popular culture, set outside a characteristic Lotto betting shop. At the center of the scene move several characters painted with rich and vibrant brushwork: a man in a dark suit sits at a small table, managing the bets, while a woman with a colorful shawl chats with him; a little distance away, other figures and a girl approach the counter, while a customer with his back turned watches the numbers on display. The artist shows extraordinary sensitivity in capturing the light and the details of the setting, from the clothes hanging on the balcony to the flowering window box on the left, to the small votive kiosk, conveying a sense of warm chorus and authentic tradition.
On the back of the canvas, fully guaranteeing originality, are the painter’s autograph signature and the title of the work written in his own hand. Characterized by compact and precious dimensions of 31x24 cm, the painting is enhanced by a solid structure with a wooden frame equipped with wedges and is framed by an elegant, elaborately worked gold frame that highlights its brightness. It is a piece of notable aesthetic appeal, perfect for collectors who love figurative painting and genre scenes capable of telling a story.
