Description from the seller
KOUDELKA JOSEF - LIME. LARGE XL COLLECTOR'S EDITION, WITH SLIPCASE, MAJOR PHOTOBOOK.
PERFECT MINT CONDITION!
Major photography book of Josef Koudelka, silver gelatin photographs printed on high-quality paper, a must-have Masterpiece of Photography. Beauty in desolation, industrial and mining landscapes. A book in absolutely MINT condition, perfect! Unique volume, published in 2012 by Barral Limited Publishing in a limited edition, hardback with slipcase, 250 sublime pages, ultra-high-resolution photographs of landscapes captured across several continents by Josef Koudelka over many years.
Black-and-white duotone photography. An ultimate photography book, ultra-photogenic and magnificent, in the form of a large illustrated retrospective of Koudelka’s work in the world’s remote industrial and mining territories.
Some descriptive elements:
"Lime. Like the great painters of the 19th century, Josef Koudelka chose quarries as his subject. Invited by the world’s leading mining group, he traversed quarries around the world, regularly, for four years. He returned with black-and-white photographs that evoke a Landscape of the end of the world. In these images the hand of man is everywhere but no human presence provides scale. Everywhere nature is transformed, unsettled by him. With this book, Josef Koudelka touches something universal, on this very contemporary topic of human labor that shapes the landscape.
When one looks at these landscapes, for it is above all a book about the landscape, the prism of Land art imposes itself on the spectator.
Josef Koudelka was born in Moravia in 1938. Initially an engineer in aeronautics, he turned entirely to photography toward the end of the 1960s. His photographs of the Soviet intervention in Prague in 1968, published under the initials P. P. (for “Photographe Prag^ois”), earned him the Gold Robert Capa Medal from the Overseas Press Club, anonymously.
In 1970, he fled Czechoslovakia as a political refugee and shortly thereafter joined Magnum Photos. In 1975 the first version of Gypsies, The End of the Journey, was published, followed by more than a dozen other books, notably Exils (1988), Chaos (1999) and Prague Invasion 1968 (2008)."
Unique, sublime, truly essential and timeless!
