La pièce en danger is a 19th‑century oil on panel painting from France, in Realism style, depicting a military scene with a charging horse and artillery, signed on the front and measuring 16 by 22 cm.
Description from the seller
Atmospheric military painting signed "Alexandre" and titled ''La pièce en danger'' – oil on panel, France 19th century.
This dynamic oil-on-panel painting captures an intense military spectacle in full action. Centrally in the composition stands a mounted soldier who, with drawn whip, urges a team of galloping white horses forward. Behind the horses trails a heavy military cannon or artillery wagon over the rugged, dusty terrain.
The painter has, with decisive, nervous brushstrokes, managed to capture the urgency, the dust and the pure adrenaline of the battlefield. In the foreground a small flash of flame or explosion is visible, which lends extra force to the historical charge and the title of the work. On the lower right the work is hand-signed by the artist.
The back of the authentic wooden panel bears a handwritten French inscription "La pièce en danger" (The artillery in danger). This historical title reveals the dramatic narrative of the piece: an artillery unit under fire or hurriedly trying to move the guns to safety.
The work is period (d'époque) and in authentic, well-worn condition. The panel shows beautiful age craquelure and light edge wear, which contributes to the historical character and authenticity of the piece.
