Description from the seller
Pair of large Neo-Classical carafes, turquoise blue molded glass, 1840-1880
Pair of large table carafes with their original stoppers.
These display pieces are distinguished by a vivid, intense, bright turquoise color, evenly tinted through the mass.
Their design draws on the Neo-Classical decorative repertoire (Louis-Philippe/Second Empire style), reinterpreting the canons of Antiquity. The body features careful moldwork with an upper frieze of geometric motifs alternating with Greek-key patterns, a central section adorned with oblong medallions in arches, and a lower frieze of Greek motifs. The elongated neck presents elegant twisted fluted reliefs, typical of 19th-century glassmaking craft.
Each carafe is topped with its original blown-molded stopper, with a flared collar and a faceted crown-shaped head, a decorative element repeated at the base of each carafe.
Split between French or Belgian grande manufactures or crystal families of the mid-19th century (likely Baccara or Val-Saint-Lambert).
Condition report:
• Carafes’ bodies: Overall very good condition for pieces of this period. No major chips, cracks, or restorations on the glass. A slight veil or natural calcareous deposition is visible inside on the walls (see last photo).
• Stoppers: Both stoppers are present and original. Note small chips at their bases (stoppers shown upside down in the photo).
