Item Description:
Rare and highly collectible complete set of antique "Sandow's Spring Grip Dumb-Bells" in their original lithographed tin box, manufactured by the Sandow Grip Dumb-Bell Co., London (Savoy Corner, Victoria Embankment).
Eugen Sandow (1867–1925), famously known as the father of modern bodybuilding, patented this system where tension could be adjusted by adding or removing springs. The box proudly displays the royal endorsement: "Supplied to King Edward VII".
This lot includes:
The original lithographed tin box with iconic graphics featuring Sandow's arm
The pair of iron/steel spring-grip dumb-bells with internal springs
The original paper chart of exercises/instructions glued inside the lid.
The highly elusive original "Selvyt" polishing cloth, fully printed with Sandow advertisements
Condition:
Good antique condition with a wonderful authentic patina. The tin shows expected signs of age, minor scratches, and oxidation. The original cloth has some staining and fraying due to agebut remains fully legible. A fantastic, complete survivor for collectors of fitness history, tobaccoriana/tins, or Edwardian social history.
