A beautiful antique example of a maiolica earthenware dish from Deruta, Italy, from the first half of the 17th century. The dish features beautiful, very detailed hand-painted decorations in the classical Deruta style. In the central panel is depicted a standing Cupid with bow and arrow. Deruta is a medieval hill town in Umbria, Italy. Production began in the early Middle Ages and reached its artistic peak in the 15th and early 16th centuries, with very characteristic local styles, such as designs inspired by Renaissance wall paintings with grotesques by Raphael.

Dimensions: 2.6 x 25.5 cm.
Dating: 1625-1650
Condition: fair, chips to the rim. It is possible that this dish was once a tazza on a foot. (see photos)
