MB 112 Report:
Tiguesmat el Akhdar 002 (TeA 002) 24º23.8518'N, 8º23.8038'W
Tiris Zemmour, Mauritania
Acquired: 2023
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6)
History: Ali Mahjub found numerous samples with a total weight of 5543 g near Bir Manu (about 8 km north of Oued Nebka), in Mauritania. Salek Mrabih (Dominion Meteorites) acquired the samples from a Mauritanian meteorite dealer in February 2023.
Physical characteristics: The stone has an irregular and flattened shape, and shows a small rim with fusion crust. The cut surface is grayish in color with a chondritic texture composed of chondrules and poorly defined metal.
Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App.). The sample displays a recrystallized chondritic texture composed of chondrules and barely discernible fragments embedded in a recrystallized matrix. Other minerals present are: apatite, chromite and troilite.
Geochemistry: (A. Love, App.) Olivine (Fa 16.4±0.2, Fe/Mn=33.6±1.4, n=8); low-Ca pyroxene (Fs 15.5±0.8 Wo 0.9±0.5, Fe/Mn=22.3±4.0, n=8).
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6 C-S2 W1). The average diameter of the chondrules is high for an H chondrite, which may reflect preferential preservation of chondrules in a larger drop-shaped form. The specimen corresponds to an ordinary chondrite H6, based on its texture, mineral composition and magnetic susceptibility.
Specimens: Salek Mrabih (meteorites Dominion) contains the main masses. A polished thin section and an end cut weighing 27.03 g are deposited in App .
