Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this portrait-format work (40 × 60 cm), Medsan draws us into a scene of profound intimacy, capturing the grace and mystery of Edo-period evenings. Drawing inspiration from the bijinga tradition (portraits of beautiful women) of ukiyo-e, this unique print features two young women sharing a moment of confidences by the glow of a paper lantern, absorbed in reading a handwritten letter.
The visual poetry and the gentle composition reside in the harmony of details and the suspended atmosphere. The sumptuous fabrics respond to one another: an emerald green kimono adorned with flying cranes tenderly wraps around a pale pink kimono sprinkled with maple leaves. In the background, an elegant folding screen decorated with clusters of blooming wisteria delineates the space, while the sliding door, open, reveals a peaceful nocturnal garden bathed in the light of a crescent moon and strewn with cherry blossom petals drifting softly into the night.
The impact of the composition is masterfully highlighted by a palette of warm, soothing colors, enhanced by the swirls of steam escaping from a steaming cup of tea in the foreground. The delicate line work, underscored by a subtle old-paper effect with patinated edges, scrupulously respects the aesthetics of traditional woodblock prints while infusing it with a sensibility of modern illustration. Calligraphy materials laid on the lacquered coffee-table add a narrative touch, inviting the viewer to imagine the contents of this secret missive.
A dreamlike piece, at once sensual, elegant and poetic, ideal for bringing a touch of softness, mystery and Asian refinement to a design-oriented, contemporary interior.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living and plural contemporary creation. Established as a true site of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and artworks. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, naïve art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created and followed within the studio, with a common artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
