Description from the seller
At first glance, Ralf Altrieth's painting seems to burst forth in a free, instinctive surge. Then the gaze lingers—and gradually discovers a more complex world, traversed by shifting forms, unexpected encounters, and surprising balances. Nothing is fixed. The work evolves ceaselessly with distance, light, and the time spent before it.
In this universe, the boundary between abstraction and figuration remains deliberately unstable. Possible silhouettes surface, depths are suggested, never fixed. The gaze is invited, put in motion. Seeing becomes an active, almost physical, experience.
But beyond their immediate energy, Ralf Altrieth's works establish themselves durably in space. They settle there through their density. Through their presence. And through this rare ability to transform the space in which they take place.

"In this sense, Ralf Altrieth's pictorial poems are a pure childish chant. From the crucible of improvisation emerges a world intact, made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses."
— Dr. Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director
