Description from the seller
Spanish 20th-century school painting, depicting a lively urban scene with figures, carriages and trees, solved with a loose, luminous brushstroke and a strongly decorative character. The composition presents a wide avenue or plaza, possibly inspired by a historical urban environment, where the background architecture appears suggested through light, vertical patches that add depth and atmosphere.
The work is inscribed within Spanish 20th-century urban landscape painting, with a clear influence of late impressionism and decorative post-impressionism. The artist does not seek a meticulous description of the place, but rather the capture of a visual impression: light, the movement of the figures, reflections on the pavement, and the city’s dynamic ambiance.
From a stylistic point of view, a rapid, impastoed, vibrant brushstroke stands out, especially visible in the sky, the architecture and the surface reflections. The figures and carriages appear treated in a synthetic manner, through small touches of color that suggest movement and urban life. This way of resolving the scene connects with the tradition of urban-view painting inspired by impressionism, where luminous effect and atmosphere prevail over descriptive detail.
The color palette combines whites, pale blues, greens, yellows and ochres, with small reddish and dark notes in the figures and horses. The overall effect conveys luminosity, freshness and breadth, reinforced by the treatment of reflections on the ground, which could suggest a wet surface or simply a pictorial play of light.
The composition has a strong scenic sense: the line of trees on the right, the carriages and pedestrians in the foreground, and the blurred background architecture create an image of an elegant and lively city, close to the taste for promenade scenes, squares and boulevards. Its aesthetic is especially decorative, with a modern and friendly finish, typical of Spanish painting of the second half of the 20th century.
The conservation status can be observed in the photographs, which form part of the description. It is recommended to examine the images carefully to assess the overall condition of the work and of the frame.
It is framed with a decorative frame of bold presence, with gilded moldings, dark areas and a light mat, in accordance with the piece’s aesthetics. The frame is sent as a gift together with the artwork.
A luminous and decorative piece, especially suited for lovers of urban painting, Spanish 20th-century landscape painting and Impressionist-inspired scenes with figures and carriages.
