In Layer Zero, Hione returns to the roots of his artistic language to explore the city as an organism built up by layers of time, memory, and expression. The composition blends architectural forms, graffiti gestures, abstract lines, and vibrant colors into a landscape where chaos and order coexist, reflecting the complexity of urban space.
The title references the idea of an “initial layer” — a starting point invisible beneath which everything is built. Just as a wall accumulates successive interventions or a city transforms across generations, this work suggests that every mark contains traces of what existed before. Nothing arises in isolation; each element is the consequence of another, creating a visual narrative in permanent evolution.
The use of fluorescent tones and strong contrasts reinforces the energy of the composition, while the geometric forms evoke buildings, structures, and fragments of a metropolitan landscape that never presents itself literally. Rather than depicting a specific place, Hione translates the feeling of living in the city: the movement, the noise, the speed, and the constant overlap of stimuli.
Layer Zero proposes a reflection on creation as a process of accumulation. Each gesture adds a new layer, but none completely erases the previous one. The painting thus becomes a metaphor for human and urban identity, where experiences, memories, and transformations remain inscribed, even when they are no longer immediately visible.
In this work, Hione invites the viewer to look beyond the surface and discover that, behind every color, line, or texture, there is always an earlier story — layer zero, silent but essential to everything that came after.
