Porcelain cache-pot, France, circa 1940s, cylindrical vase-like form on a tall circular foot, glazed blue-toned base with thin gold edging and a hand-painted violet monochrome scene of courting nobles, dimensions 17 cm x 17 cm x 15 cm, good condition with small signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Gilded and painted porcelain cache-pot.
Description:
Charming glazed porcelain cache-pot of cylindrical shape, resting on a tall and elegant flared circular foot. The object's design is governed by a delicate sky-blue fill that covers the entire supporting foot and outlines the inner upper rim; both elements are finished with thin fillets in pure gold.
The central section of the body, set against a background of soft pinkish tones, hosts on the main face a refined gallant scene painted by hand in violet monochrome (or camaïeu style) with raised polychrome touches. The composition depicts a pair of young nobles in eighteenth-century costumes caught during a courtship in a garden, a gentleman hinting at a step of dance as he approaches a lady who holds a bouquet of flowers in her skirt. The decorative painting continues along the sides and on the back, translating into tree scenery and dense bushes in the same violet-tinted and shaded tones.
