Description from the seller

Hand-Painted Greek Panathenaic Amphora – Terracotta – Greece
Beautiful hand-crafted terracotta amphora inspired by the famous Panathenaic prize amphorae of Ancient Greece.

The decoration depicts athletes competing in a foot race (stadion race) during the Panathenaic Games, the prestigious athletic festival held in Athens in honor of the goddess Athena. Traditionally, authentic Panathenaic amphorae were filled with premium Attic olive oil and awarded as prizes to victorious athletes.

This modern reproduction has been handmade and hand-painted in Greece using the traditional black-figure style on a terracotta body. It features two loop handles, a decorative neck, and detailed athletic figures around the body.
