Sampson & Mordan - Cigarette holder - .925 silver - Spring-loaded button

Rare antique English silver pocket box by Sampson Mordan & Co, hallmarked London 1881.
Large, uncommon specimen, with a spring-button opening mechanism. Pressing the button causes the lid to open automatically, closing again when the button is released.

Unusual form — it may be a vest-case, pocket case, or small pocket cigarette case. I have not found another identical example.
Overall good condition for its age, with normal signs of wear and a slight wobble in the lid and a small dent in the lower right corner consistent with the piece’s age.
A rare and interesting Victorian item from one of the most prestigious English makers.
