Ralf Altrieth, Amis d'esprit - XL, 2025, acrylic on canvas, 98 × 112 cm, original edition, hand-signed and dated on the back, certificate of authenticity signed, excellent condition, origin France, sold direct from the artist.
Description from the seller
A vibrant and sensitive material.
At first glance, Ralf Altrieth’s painting seems to emerge from a free, almost instinctive gesture. But very quickly, something else imposes itself: an underlying organization, an internal logic that goes beyond mere spontaneity. What appears is not illustrated—it is revealed. A form arises, then transforms, then hesitates. And it is precisely in this in-between that the work derives its strength.
In this universe, the boundary between abstraction and figuration remains deliberately unstable. Possible silhouettes surface, depths suggested, without ever settling. The gaze is invited, set in motion. Seeing becomes an active, almost physical, experience.
Each work functions as a field of possibilities. Nothing is imposed, everything is offered. It is a painting that does not immediately reveal its answers, but opens up spaces.
Ralf Altrieth’s works do not seek to seduce through spectacular display or visible virtuosity. They settle in another way. By their density. By their presence. And by this rare capacity to transform the space in which they take place.

CRITIQUE AND PRESS:
"In this sense, Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial poems are a pure childish chant. From the crucible of improvisation, he brings forth a world intact, made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses."
— Dr. Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director
"His writing through gesture and color describes a world open to new voices and experiments never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression of the contemporary scene."
— Laurent Puech, art historian and curator
