Description from the seller

Sonny Insinna
The Herald

In "The Herald", Sonny Insinna transforms a figure belonging to the rural and popular imaginary into a universal symbol of awakening and rebirth.

The rooster, traditionally associated with the announcement of dawn and the passage from darkness to light, is here portrayed in a solemn and almost monumental pose. The open beak suggests the song, but also a deeper call: an invitation to a new beginning, a realization, an inner change.

The artist eliminates any narrative or environmental reference, letting the animal figure emerge against a sparse background of blue and gray veils. This suspension gives the work a timeless character, transforming the subject into an archetypal image.

The painting construction, carried out through oil and charcoal, alternates anatomical precision and gestural freedom. The soft brushstrokes and atmospheric shades amplify the presence of the rooster, which asserts itself to the gaze with extraordinary expressive force despite the small size of the work.

As in much of Sonny Insinna's artistic research, in this painting the animal figure becomes a metaphor for the human condition and a bearer of universal meanings.
