Louis XVI style with a knot and ribbon decoration; the head of the Gorgon (or Medusa) is a French guarantee mark used for sterling silverware and silver jewelry. It attests to the purity of the metal and allows dating old pieces.
Period of use: from 16 August 1819 to 9 May 1838.

front view: for the second title.
After May 1838, the system was simplified and this mark was replaced by the famous head of Minerva.
Here, front view in a notched frame and unidentified jeweler's mark in a lozenge.
