Original poster, first edition poster, the first print of large dimensions 100x70 cm. Printed on paper. At the top appears the masthead of the famous magazine, at the bottom the artist's signature. Saul Steinberg was among the greatest illustrators of the 20th century, a world-renowned artist and illustrator who during his career collaborated with the leading American periodicals, including Life, Time, Harper's Bazaar, but best known for his collaboration from the 1940s to the 1980s with The New Yorker, a magazine for which he produced drawings, cartoons, drawn reportage, and dozens of covers. With his clean, incisive line and his metaphysical imagery influenced by Dadaism and Art Deco, Steinberg on the magazine covers depicted views of New York and visionary and surreal compositions. Steinberg suggested replacing the word 'autobiography' with 'autogeography', as if life were essentially a matter of places, of locations and perspectives, as in this famous New Yorker cover from March 29, 1976, titled 'View of the World from 9th Avenue' showing the world seen from an indeterminate point on the famous street.
